General Editor, NFL

Job Description

The General Editor will work with other editors to create, develop and manage compelling year-round NFL coverage for ESPN.com. This editor must have a passion for the NFL and in-depth knowledge of the league, with extensive background covering, editing or producing related content. The General Editor will edit copy, build stories in our content management program and play a leading role in developing associated multimedia and social content. Good publishing judgment as well as strong copy editing and headline writing skills are especially important.

Responsibilities:
• Develop innovative NFL content and means of storytelling that distinguishes our coverage and is useable across all of ESPN's platforms, including digital, print and social.
• Integrate coverage with ESPN's multiple entities, including TV production and radio.
• Exhibit a solid understanding and appreciation of news, story play and trending topics.
• Develop cutting edge social-first storytelling techniques for NFL writers.

Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of editorial, reporting, blogging, social, multimedia and/or copy editing experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and news judgment
• Strong appreciation of popular culture and understanding of the tastes of ESPN's audiences
• Ability to follow and shape stories at various stages of development
• In-depth knowledge of the NFL, it's players, teams, coaches, league operations and the like
• Strong understanding and appreciation of search engine optimization and social media
• Basic understanding of HTML and related web authoring tools and software

Required Education

Bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field.
