The Role:

The Design Director is someone who is able to quickly interpret business needs and client briefs and turn them into compelling creative solutions. Often working under tight deadlines while overseeing multiple projects, the Design Director must be a skilled manager of design teams (including but not limited to: graphic designers, animators, 3D artists, and illustrators). The Design Director must be an effective communicator, especially when it comes to relaying creative concepts to design teams and company stakeholders.

The Design Director will work alongside creative teams (e.g., Creative Directors, Copywriters, Art Directors) and be responsible for bringing their visions to life through various visual outputs. This includes, but is not limited to: graphic design, light retouching/photo manipulation, motion graphics, social media posts, production for both digital and print assets, branded collateral, web banners, presentation designs, and original content.

This person will be creative, highly organized, and able to work efficiently on multiple projects across a variety of industries and brands. They offer creative solutions to creative and visual problems and can work across all types of programs – from the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign) to Keynote and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:
• Conceptualize design projects and comes up with creative visual solutions based on specific client/brief needs.
• Develop strategic plans for their projects, determining appropriate timelines and budgets when necessary.
• Choose specific design elements and overall visual direction for projects with team.
• Oversee design projects, including the management of staff members and monitoring the projects from inception through execution and delivery.
• Establish appropriate design teams for projects based on bandwidth, skillsets, and project needs.
• Participate and lead client meetings to determine what is needed per project/brief and to present visual concepts and be the expert in the room for reviews.
• Review work from staff members and provide feedback and direction as needed and be able to review feedback from clients and distill this information to the team for edits and alterations.
• Collaborate with teams to create design solutions for pitch materials and new business opportunities.
• Work with creative, project, marketing, strategy, and day-today account managers across client teams to deliver on all assets needed for clients' businesses.
• Hire/develop, inspire/mentor, and champion the design team to bigger and better opportunities and self-growth.
• Create great work and design deliverables when needed – a willingness to get in the weeds with the team is a must.
• Be the visual leader for the agency and its clients' brands to ensure delivery of on-brand materials.
• Be able to perform under tight deadlines with quick turnaround times if needed.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a desire to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Proactive with relentless hustle and desire to exceed aggressive goals.
• Ability to balance multiple projects at once, multitask and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Great time management and multi-tasking skills.
• Deep understanding and ongoing curiosity of cultural & design trends.
• Strong background in art/design, advertising, or related field.
• Excellent design, typography, motion and layout skills.
