About the Team

The English Subtitling team is focused on creating and conducting Quality Control (QC) of English templates for translation of subtitles, creating and QCing English closed captions for the hard of hearing, and QCing English subtitles translated from other source languages. As the Team Lead, you will assist the Manager in overseeing English subtitlers and daily production with the primary focus of maintaining and improving quality and capacity. With your knowledge of localization industry standards for media & entertainment and sensitivity to viewer experience, you will help to develop talent, identify and resolve process and training gaps, and promote best practices that support on-time delivery and linguistic quality.

Main Duties
• Be the direct supervisor of English subtitlers located in Canada and the US.
• Monitor schedules of all North American production work.
• Collaborate with global English Operations Management and Translator Management teams to establish and promote best practices for English template creation, editing of translations into English and closed captioning.
• Participate in global initiatives to coordinate, templatize, and operationalize plans to improve and streamline processes and ensure consistent execution across the entire global English Operations team.
• Participate in onboarding new clients and workflows with global English Operations Management and key stakeholders in the end-to-end production chain.
• Be the first point of escalation for English quality and capacity concerns. Perform root cause analysis and propose and implement preventive actions.
• Train and mentor newly hired English subtitlers.
• Maintain team metrics on quality, productivity and on-time delivery.
• Participate in production-related Sfera development scoping, documentation, and testing.

Additional Duties
• Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement, including opportunities to optimize workflows and resolve production or customer issues.
• Participate in planning, organizing and/or executing a variety of simultaneous, complex, and large-scale projects.
• Assist Localization Operations management as a subject matter expert for internal and inter-departmental initiatives.
• Other responsibilities as needed.

What You Bring
• BA/MA Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Translation, Localization Management or applicable equivalent experience
• Experience with team supervision and training
• Exceptional communication skills across all levels (verbal, written)
• Experience with various localization workflows with emphasis on subtitling for all media & entertainment distribution channels
• The ability to engage with and motivate culturally diverse, distributed teams (listen, influence, lead)
• An attraction to applying deep critical thinking to solve difficult problems
• Experience in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Self-starter, independent learner
