Crackle Plus is a video-on-demand (VOD) subsidiary owned by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ : CSSE) The company’s consumer facing ad-supported VOD (AVOD) channels include Crackle (US and Canada), Popcornflix, Popcornflix Kids, Truli, Popcornflix Comedy, Frightpix, Espanolflix, and the newly launched Chicken Soup for the Soul channel.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. (“CSSE”) is a rapidly expanding producer and distributor of high-quality, entertaining television and online video programming. We own an exclusive, perpetual and worldwide license to create and distribute video content under the beloved Chicken Soup for the Soul brand.

The Opportunity:

The Director of Accounting, Online Networks role will be responsible for the accounting close process, third party participation statement preparation, and ad hoc finance projects for Crackle Plus, a division within Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. The Director will report to the Online Networks SVP, Controller and Operational Finance, will supervise the Accounting Manager and will work closely with Corporate Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the financial month-end close and related processes, working collaboratively with the Corporate Accounting group to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial records
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and record journal entries
  • Coordinate auditor requests for quarterly reviews and year-end audits
  • Present information to management in a concise manner and work with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Communicate and coordinate accounting policies, practices, and procedures with departments and senior management.
  • Identify and streamline needed controls and process improvements that will facilitate appropriate financial reporting
  • Assist in the management of processes and controls to ensure compliance with Accounting department policies and procedures, executive management and third parties where necessary
  • Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures.
  • Remain current with the latest developments in the AVOD (Advertising Video-On-Demand) industry
  • Collaborate closely with other departments and functions to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting and disclosure


Specific Duties and Work Habits:

  • Is responsible for the accuracy & issuance of multiple monthly partner payment statements to content providers, ad rep partners, devices, platforms and music royalty organizations
  • Partners with the Director, Revenue Billings and Analytics, Senior Revenue Analyst and Accounts Receivable function in recording monthly revenues; develops an understanding of the sales systems and operations that drive revenue recognition
  • Ensures that technology invoices are in line with signed agreements and questions accuracy, both internally & externally, where appropriate
  • Ensures that invoices (tech and non-tech) are received and recorded in a timely manner; provides specific instruction to Accounts Payable on coding (expense vs. prepaid)
  • Partners with IT Project Manager on the capitalization of Tech Development Costs and timing of putting IT Projects into service
  • Seeks to create repeatable monthly processes that can be audited easily
  • Exhibits consistency and care in the coding and descriptions used in recording journal entries
  • Supports planning function with detail on actuals for monthly business reviews and during annual planning process
  • Supports management’s bi-weekly cash disbursement schedules to ensure that payments are made on a timely basis to service providers
  • Ad Hoc Project requests from both SVP, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer


Qualifications and Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience, public / private accounting experience; a portion of which being with a national public accounting firm
  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis or major in Accounting – CPA preferred
  • Experience working in Accounting General Ledger reporting systems, with knowledge and understanding of accounting (US GAAP) and generating general ledger reports
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus; at minimum, experience with similar accounting software
  • Strong capabilities in Excel and basic Excel functionality (e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUP / HLOOKUP)
  • An entrepreneurial mindset; track record of, and an ability to, work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Experience in the media and entertainment sector a major plus
  • Experience reviewing vendor contracts and validating partner statements a plus
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with peers, subordinates and executive management
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and key external relationships where applicable
  • Proficient computer skills in the Windows operating system, including Microsoft applications
