Overview

The Deputy News Editor, EMEA, works at the heart of the editorial team by breaking, assigning, editing and writing news stories during Europe's business day. The role involves updating the CNBC.com website, communicating across teams and covering breaking news – all within tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

⦁ Act as a hot-seat for CNBC.com, managing and updating the content on the site by using strong editorial judgment and knowledge of business and financial news
⦁ Swiftly and accurately write breaking news headlines to send as mobile notifications
⦁ Write breaking news stories quickly and accurately

Occasionally write other stories on a variety of subjects including financial markets, business trends, economics and policy
⦁ Act as a copy editor for CNBC.com, making sure the site's stories, features, video descriptions and interactive content are of the highest quality and published in a timely manner
⦁ Communicate in a timely and clear manner with CNBC teams across countries and platforms, including TV, to ensure coordination of stories
⦁ Curate the website by selecting relevant stories from wires and partners
⦁ Produce stories in the content management system
⦁ Assign work to other members of the team and coordinate production to ensure the website is updated at all times
⦁ Deputize for senior editors
⦁ Monitor and assess the performance of CNBC's digital content using analytics tools

Skills/Requirements:

⦁ In-depth knowledge of CNBC's content and subject material and a strong interest in financial markets, economics, technology and politics
⦁ Ability to thoroughly edit copy under tight deadlines and identify mistakes, errors and typos
⦁ Previous experience in updating a website, news editing or hot-seating at a wire service is preferred
⦁ Understanding of global financial markets and how events in different economies and markets affect each other
⦁ Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced news environment
⦁ Ability to work as part of a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring a smooth-running website that is 100% accurate
⦁ Excellent verbal communication skills, coupled with strong research and succinct writing skills
⦁ Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced news environment
⦁ Knowledge of social media, especially Twitter
⦁ Fluency in English
⦁ Flexibility in working shifts, some of which start very early in the morning or on weekends

Desired characteristics:

⦁ Experience of using content management systems
⦁ Experience of working for a leading wire service or business news organization
⦁ Experience overseeing and making decisions about news coverage
⦁ Familiarity with one or more European languages is a bonus
