Job Description

The CBS owned and operated station in West Sacramento is looking for a driven leader to drive a talented group of shooters and MSJ's to become creative visual storytellers who can capture images on multiple platforms.

We seek someone with more than 10 years of shooting news experience that can move beyond just the shooting and editing portion of their job to the creation of a culture of creativity and personal success for others. This individual will still cover day to day general, in-depth, features and investigative assignments, but play an active role in the planning and success of large scale special projects and staff issues.

We are shooting on both large and small format XD cameras, and use Grass Valley Edius as our non-linear editing platform. You should have strong editing skills and posses excellent people skills, a strong work ethic and a great attitude to learn and guide others. This individual will work hand in hand with management to establish an in-house workflow and SOP for current and future hires. A big part of this role is for this individual to work with engineering and IT to seek out and find new equipment in the news gathering field, test and eventually implement it into the workflow for all news parts. Personal growth is the success of this position and for the success of the news team.

Responsibilities:
• Shoot and edit daily news, special projects, and investigative shoots
• Work with news management to successfully hire qualified photojournalist
• Be a role models for others and a team player
• Train incoming shooters and MSJ's
• Maintain a high level of new equipment and workflows knowledge in the field of photojournalism
• Work with staff to plan and execute special project shoots and shows
• Hold monthly meetings to discuss culture, content and are commitment to our communities we cover
• Able to work both nights and weekends if needed
• Ability to travel if needed

Required Skills:
• Be able to produce great stories under tight deadlines
• Great editing skills
• Be able to shoot live shots with bonded cellular devices
• Have field lighting experience
• Be able to think quickly on your feet and problem solve
• To be able to lead by example and guide others
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Able to relate well with divers' populations and age groups

Experience:
• More than 10 years of experience as a news photographer/editor
• Must maintain a valid driver's license
• Position is a member of IASTE union
• The ability to be able to guide others
• A passion for new equipment exploration
