Overview & Responsibilities:

CBS News and Stations, brings together the power of CBS News, 28 owned television stations in 17 major US markets, the CBS News Streaming Network, CBS News Streaming local platforms, local websites and cbsnews.com, under one umbrella. CBS News and Stations provides news and information for the CBS Television Network.

CBS News Controllership team is seeking a highly motivated Staff Accountant that is a self-starter, who is detailed oriented, organized and capable of working well within a fast paced deadline driven environment.

The Staff Accountant is responsible in preparing financial reports, account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger and performing other accounting duties as assigned for the CBS News Division.
• Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering journal entries
• Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information
• Fixed recurring and non-recurring monthly entries pertaining to: SG& A, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Broadcast and Primetime, Hard News, P-Card re-classes
• Revenue and Expense Accruals
• Intercompany Transfers
• Monthly Cashbook activity
• Sales and Use tax filings
• Prepare quarterly schedules sent to Corporate Accounting
• Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations
• Annual tax package
• Serve as a business partner across Controllership and FP&A teams

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's required, a focus in Finance, Accounting or related area preferred
• 2+ years of professional accounting experience

Additional Qualifications:
• Professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus but not required
• Knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and practices
• Experience with general ledger functions and month end/year end close process
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Shown organization and analytical skills
• Accuracy and high attention to detail
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook etc.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to efficiently handle time and meet deadlines
• Experience with foreign currency transactions a plus
