Job summary
Do you want to help create the future of Video Shopping with Amazon.com? Amazon Live is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, and operationally focused Streaming Engineer to support the fast evolving and expanding shopping video eco-system. You will work in both a traditional live studio environment and manage influncers streaming from home. You will have an opportunity to work within multiple network, hardware and cloud-based, and video creation systems, analyzing and identifying the common issues, and keeping the operations team in a position to have a positive impact on the customer experience. This job requires you to hit the ground running and your ability to learn quickly will define your success. The role encompasses providing production support for up to 24 projects per week and testing support for new hosts. Monitoring the health of the Amazon Live network is critical. Many live events take place after regular working hours. The candidate should understand the day-to-day job expectations of live production before agreeing to join this team.

Key job responsibilities
Network and hardware support for live stream operations centers across multiple remote locations and the JFK14 Studio including redundant systems and failure planning.
• Understand deep technical aspects of existing systems and services, and why they are needed for operations (Grass Valley based Control Room-Stage equipment/vMix based remote switching/Elemental/ Closed Caption)
• Understanding of video encoding technologies and protocols (SRT, RTMP, HLS, h.264/h.265)
• Provide support for incoming stream hosts, including extensive troubleshooting tasks and ''on-call'' availability with remote streaming laptops with cameras and audio equipment.
• Ability to develop tools to aid operations and maintenance.
• System status reporting, including metric tracking and improvement goals
• Work with producers, senior engineers and other teams for handing-off or taking over active support issues, prioritizing root-cause fixes with engineers and creating a team specific knowledge base and skill set.
• Own and maintain monitoring systems to ensure detection of network issue before they become impactful

A day in the life
A typical day at Amazon Live consists of 3-6 live-streams plus prep for the following 2+ weeks of streams and events. Depending on studio activity, the streaming engineer will work in our NYC studio daily to maintain, test, and update all OBS-powered live-streaming sets in order to keep them functional. You will attend all stream calls and work with the Tech Directors to take the lead on remote onboarding and/or in-person tech setups with talent. When streaming from our studio, you will assist control room staff with audio/com systems/graphics/switcher set-up and manage Elemental usage. Should any technical issues arise before, during, or after streams, either remotely or in-studio, the engineer will work with the team to diagnose, resolve, and prevent future problems. Additionally, the engineer will attend tech planning calls with producers and external teams for larger, more complex projects in order to develop tech books that are compatible with the Amazon Live platform. They will ensure proper internet and gear testing is scheduled and confirmed. The engineer will also manage the closed captioning encoder and ensure proper streaming credentials are scheduled and inserted at their proper times.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 3+ years experience as a producer/production manager or line producer
• 3+ years experience with budgeting, scheduling and cost reports
• 3+ years live streaming experience with both studio and remote equipment.
• Understanding of OBS and vMix video streaming and encoding technologies.
• Knowledge of encoding hardware software, i.e., Elemental
• Experience with IP communication systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to explain step by step instructions to non technical stream talent.
• Experience with lighting and camera lenses
• Working under pressure in a live unscripted environment
