WABC-TV (ABC7) Community Engagement Intern , Spring 2023

​​Job Summary:

WABC-TV, the flagship Disney/ABC–owned television station in New York, is the most-watched television station in the New York Television market and the United States. WABC also leads the market in station websites and has the highest social media engagement.

WABC's Community Engagement Department is a key, longstanding pillar of the station's operation, identity, culture, and mission. The department is responsible for strengthening and broadening the station's commitments and ties to local communities and cultures; furthering partnerships with local organizations to benefit the community; promoting DEI and cause-related priorities; implementing and highlighting the countless local initiatives, events, and contributions to the community that WABC and Disney originate. Internally, the Community Engagement Department is a valued partner in constant collaboration with other departments (including News, Sales, Creative Services) and stakeholders across the OTV/Disney properties.

The Community Engagement internship program is very hands-on in a professional environment. You will gain knowledge and real-world experience in community outreach, PSA and long-form video production, event planning and organization, administrative operations, campaign ideation, and more, all within the fast-paced media industry. The Community Engagement intern is expected to actively participate in the numerous community projects, initiatives, and operations of a major market television station.

Responsibilities:

Some of your projects with the WABC Community Engagement team may include:
• Attend community engagement events and meetings (virtual / in-person)
• Assist with planning and production of the station's campaigns and initiatives
• Assist with studio and taped long-form productions
• Assist with video production of the station's community messaging and marketing
• Work on social media engagement and provide support for the station's digital platforms
• Interfacing with community, corporate, and internal partners
• Connecting with community-based non-profit organizations, and the communities that interact with and are supported by WABC

Basic Qualifications:

What you bring to the role…
• Interest in pursuing a career in television/media field
• Non-linear video editing proficiency is essential (Adobe Premiere preferred)
• Thorough knowledge of long-form TV & video production
• Superb attention to detail and time-management skills
• Strong communication and writing ability
• Able to handle many different responsibilities at the same time in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Prior work experience in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in community engagement, corporate citizenship, or social responsibility
• Experience in event planning a plus
• Previous internship or employment experience in TV or video production
• Previous coursework or work experience in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or related field
• Proficiency in social media and Zoom meeting coordination

Required Education:
• Junior/Senior-level standing
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship

Additional Details:
• All candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization
• All candidates must be at least 18 years old
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• The approximate dates of this internship are January 2023-June 2023
• All candidates must be willing to work 16-24 hours/week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends, and holidays)
• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the season
• This internship is a hybrid internship. Must be able to provide own housing and transportation for the duration of the program in the New York City area. Also requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated workspace.
